The Barn: The Shawnessy Community Center

Step back in time and hold your next function in a turn-of-the-century barn!

This landmark is situated in the community of Shawnessy in a 17-acre green space that includes a new tot lot and tennis courts. A few short steps away are ball diamonds and soccer fields for your enjoyment. We have everything you need to plan your company BBQ, you community event, or even your wedding! The barn has a capacity of 115 people. This setting for your next function is very rustic. This barn was built in the early 1920's and was refurbished in the late 70's as a community centre. The barn is the last standing barn within the city limits of Calgary that is still usable. Its cedar walls encompass the most beautiful fireplace, which roars its warmth in the winter, and lends to a quiet comfort in the summer. The huge sliding glass doors opposite the fireplace open onto the outdoor patio and the green space. The ambiance is already there...all you need is you and your friends! The Ice Rink

The Shawnessy Ice Rink boasts 2 skating surfaces - one rink with boards used primarily for shinny hockey in the winter and great for roller blading and basketball in the spring and summer months; the other ice surface is ideal for those who wish to go for a leisure skate. Both ice surfaces are lit from dusk until 10:00 pm in the winter months.

The rink shed houses a Zamboni which is used to keep the ice in great shape. Also, a sheltered area for putting on skates is provided.

The rink is maintained wholly by community volunteers.

Shannon Park boasts 17 acres of beautifully treed green space woven with multi-use pathways, baseball diamonds, soccer fields, tennis courts, and playgrounds.
